AHS Chief of the Division of Integrative Medicine, Dr. Amy Matecki, has been appointed to the California Acupuncture Board by Governor Jerry Brown. The seven-member board serves as the state’s regulatory body licensing acupuncturists. It administers exams that test applicants’ competence, knowledge and ability and enforces the Acupuncture Licensure Act.
Dr. Matecki has served as an attending physician at AHS since 2004. As an advocate for the use of integrative medicine for patient pain mitigation, she helped launch the AHS adult medicine half-day clinic for acupuncture. She also played a crucial role in establishing one of the first acupuncture clinical internship programs in the country at Highland Hospital.
Dr. Matecki serves as president of the International Center for Integrative Medicine and vice chair of the American Association of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture’s English Division.
