John Chapman, MBA
John Chapman, a 27-year health care veteran, joined Alameda Health System (AHS) in 2011. Mr. Chapman began his journey at AHS as an Executive Director of Ambulatory Patient Care and Clinical Services where he was responsible for multiple primary care sites and 42 specialty care service line sites. In 2012 he moved into the role of Associate Vice President of Clinical Support where he maintained administrative oversight for clinical operations and clinical support services across AHS and provided leadership for the new Acute Care Tower, clinical lab and pathology, radiology, pharmacy, physical therapy, and cardiology. In January of 2015, he accepted the role of Chief Administrative Officer. As Chief Administrative officer he has full responsibility for the successful operation and delivery of excellent patient care. He is charged with defining, developing and implementing strategic initiatives.
Mr. Chapman previously served as Executive Director of Clinical Services at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center (UCSF) from 1998-2011 where he oversaw operating and capital budgets for assigned ancillary services with an annual operating budget of $218 million and 1,150 FTEs. At UCSF he was recognized for finding over $6 million in cost reduction and revenue enhancements each year from FY2007-FY2012 and was awarded the lead SCOPE achievement award for six successive years.
With a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Immunology, Mr. Chapman worked as a Clinical Lab Scientist for 10 years prior to his role at UCSF. He also holds a Master’s of Business Administration in Health Care Management from the University of Phoenix, is licensed in the State of California and with the American Society for Clinical Pathology as a Clinical Microbiologist Specialist, and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
